Privacy notice
What personal data Linju keeps, why, who sees it, how long we keep it and your rights. Short version: we keep as little as we can, shops never see your email, and we never sell your data.
In force from 15 October 2026
1. Who we are
Linju is run by Future Forge Private Limited, a company registered in England and Wales, company number 15480332, registered office 19 Brubeck Way, Glebe Farm, Wavendon, Milton Keynes, England, MK17 8WR. We are the controller of the personal data described here.
To ask about your data or to use your rights, use "Contact us about your data" in the app or on linju.app, or email [email protected].
This notice covers the Linju app, linju.app and our emails, for everyone who uses them: neighbours, shop owners and staff, and anyone who reports something to us. It also covers the independent shops we approach about joining Linju.
2. What we keep
Your account: your email address, first name and last initial; the time you confirmed you are 18 or over (never your date of birth); and the version of our terms you accepted and when.
If you sign in with Google or Apple: the ID that account gives Linju, which never changes, and the email address it shares with us (section 3).
Your home area: the postcode sector (for example MK8 1) and the council area your postcode is in. We do not keep your full postcode.
Your welcome pass: the month you tell us you moved in, and when you told us.
How you use Linju: your stamp cards, each visit a shop scans (the shop, the time and the staff member who scanned), the rewards and offers you use, the shops you follow, the notifications we send you, and every choice you make about messages, with the words you were shown and the time.
Your code: the secret behind your code, kept encrypted on our servers and on your phone.
Your phones: if you allow notifications, a notification token for each phone and its platform.
If you run a shop or work in one: your shop's details, photo, offers and updates (photos are re-encoded, which removes hidden details such as location); your team; the email address of anyone you invite, until they accept; and your plan and its dates. For a paid plan, Stripe holds your payment details, and we keep Stripe's reference numbers for your shop.
What you send us: reports, appeals and data requests, and an email address if you give one.
The shops you ask for: the name and kind of each shop, the postcode or street you give, and whether you asked us to tell you when it joins.
If we approach your shop about joining Linju: your shop's name, kind and address, how to reach you (who to ask for, the shop's phone or address), whether your business is a company, and notes of our conversations. We get these from you, from what your shop shows the public, and from neighbours who asked for your shop.
Security records: your sign-in sessions, and a record of important actions on your account. To protect Linju from abuse we use your internet (IP) address when you connect; we keep only a scrambled form of it for one minute, and we do not record it in our logs.
If we suspend your account: when, the reason under our Terms of use, the explanation we give you, who at Linju decided, and when the suspension ended. If you delete your account while it is suspended, we also keep a scrambled form of its mailbox, and of the Google or Apple ID it signed in with, with that record.
We do not collect your date of birth, your full postcode, your location from your phone, your payment card details, any biometric data, or your Google or Apple password, contacts, photos or anything else from those accounts. If you turn on the app lock, your phone checks your fingerprint or face itself and only tells Linju yes or no.
3. Signing in with Google or Apple
You can sign in with a code we email you, with Google, or with Apple (on an iPhone and on linju.app). If you choose Google or Apple, they confirm who you are, and of what they share with Linju we keep only:
the ID your Google or Apple account gives Linju, which never changes;
your email address. Apple may share a private relay address instead of your own, and our emails to it reach you through Apple;
your first name and the first letter of your last name, taken from the name they share, to fill in your account; you can change them.
Google also shares the address of your profile photo; we do not keep it.
From Google, Linju asks for nothing more than your basic profile and email address (the openid, email and profile permissions). From Apple, we also keep a token Apple gives us, encrypted, only so that we can tell Apple when you delete your Linju account or disconnect Apple.
We use this information only to sign you in; to keep one account whichever way you sign in (if the email address Google or Apple shares already has a Linju account, you sign in to that account); and to keep a suspended account from opening again (section 4). We never use it for advertising, never sell or share it, and never use it to train any artificial intelligence or machine-learning model. Linju's use of information received from Google APIs adheres to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
Google user data, in short. Access: when you choose to sign in with Google, Linju accesses only your Google account's ID, email address and name, through the openid, email and profile permissions (and the address of your profile photo, which Linju does not keep). Use: Linju uses this Google user data only to sign you in and to keep your Linju account. Storage: Linju stores the ID, the email address, and the first name and last initial taken from your name, with your account on our servers in the UK, encrypted in transit and at rest, for as long as your account exists, and deletes them when you delete your account (a scrambled form of the ID is kept only with the record of a suspension, section 8). Sharing: Linju does not share, sell or transfer Google user data to anyone, does not use it for advertising, and does not use it to train artificial intelligence or machine-learning models. You can revoke Linju's access at any time at myaccount.google.com/permissions.
Apple user data, in short. Access: when you choose to sign in with Apple, Linju receives only your Apple account's ID for Linju, the email address Apple shares (your own, or a private relay address that forwards to you), and, the first time only, your name. Use: Linju uses this data only to sign you in and to keep your Linju account. Storage: Linju stores the ID, the email address, the first name and last initial taken from your name, and a token from Apple, encrypted, with your account on our servers in the UK, for as long as your account exists; the token is kept only so that we can tell Apple to end Linju's access when you delete your account or when you disconnect Apple, which we do, and then everything is deleted (disconnecting Apple deletes the ID and the token, and your Linju account keeps its email address; a scrambled form of the ID is kept only with the record of a suspension, section 8). Sharing: Linju does not share, sell or transfer it to anyone and does not use it for advertising or to train artificial intelligence or machine-learning models. You can stop using Sign in with Apple with Linju at any time in your iPhone's Settings, under your Apple Account, or at account.apple.com.
Google and Apple know that you used your account to sign in to Linju; their own privacy policies cover that. linju.app loads nothing from Google or Apple until you choose to sign in with them. When you delete your Linju account, or disconnect Apple, we tell Apple to end Linju's access to your Apple account, and you can remove Linju from your Google or Apple account settings at any time.
In the app and on linju.app, your Profile shows how you sign in, under "How you sign in", and lets you disconnect Google or Apple at any time; you can always still sign in with a code to your email address. If you stop using Sign in with Apple with Linju in your Apple settings, Apple tells us: we delete its token and sign you out, and keep the ID, so that if you use Sign in with Apple again you return to the same Linju account. If you delete your Apple Account, we delete the ID too.
4. Why we use it, and our lawful bases
To provide Linju to you (contract): your account and sign-in, your code, stamp cards, welcome pass, visits, following shops, the notifications you choose, the Results we show shops as counts, and shops' plans.
With your consent (you can withdraw it at any time, in the app or from the message itself):
the weekly digest by email;
news and offers from each shop you follow, by notification and in the app;
reminders about your own stamp cards, timed from your card at each shop;
news about Linju, if you choose it;
telling you when a shop you asked for joins Linju, if you tick the box when you ask.
Come-back messages: if you follow a shop on the Plus plan and stop visiting it, we may send you that shop's come-back message, timed from your own visits there. This is profiling for direct marketing, done under the consent you gave by following the shop. You can object at any time by unfollowing the shop, and the shop never learns who received its message.
For our legitimate interests, where your interests do not override them:
keeping Linju secure and preventing fraud: sessions, security records, limits on how often anyone can try things, and checks by our team for unusual use of welcome offers;
making sure each welcome offer is used once per person: after an account is deleted we keep a scrambled form of its mailbox with each welcome offer it used, for 3 years;
keeping shops' visit records for their Results and for disputes;
moderating content and keeping Linju safe, including the automated checks on photos and wording described below;
understanding how Linju is used, from counts in our own records. We use no analytics or tracking tools;
enforcing our terms and protecting people and Linju from fraud and harm, including suspending an account when a person at Linju decides it is needed, keeping the record of that decision, and not opening a new account on the mailbox of a suspended account, or with the Google or Apple account it signed in with. If an account is deleted while it is suspended, we keep a scrambled form of its mailbox and of that Google or Apple ID with the record until the suspension ends;
keeping a record of the terms each person accepted, in case of a legal claim;
counting the shops neighbours ask for, so we know which shops to approach, and telling a shop how many neighbours asked for it, never who;
approaching independent shops about joining Linju, in person, by phone or by post. We email a shop only after it says yes to email, unless it is a company, and we check the Telephone Preference Service before any marketing call.
To meet our legal obligations: our online safety duties (reports, removals and their records), reporting child sexual abuse material to the National Crime Agency, tax and accounting records for shops' payments, and answering requests about personal data.
5. Automated checks
We make no decision about you with legal or similarly significant effects by automated means alone. Every photo uploaded to Linju is checked by an image classifier on our own servers; a photo it flags waits for a person at Linju to review, and only the classifier's score is kept. Words in shops' pages and offers are checked against our rules when they are saved, and offer wording that describes a prize draw or chance is refused, with the reason shown.
6. Who sees your data
Shops: when a shop scans your code, it sees your first name and last initial, your stamps and visits at that shop, and whether you are new to it. Shops never see your email address, your postcode or your home area. In their Results they see counts, not people. A shop you asked for may be told how many neighbours asked for it, never who.
Other people: nobody else sees your account. Shops' pages are public.
Our service providers, who act on our instructions: Resend, which sends our emails; Expo, with Google Firebase Cloud Messaging and Apple Push Notification service, which deliver notifications to your phone; Stripe, which takes shops' payments and also acts as a controller for its own legal duties; and Cloudflare, which carries traffic to Linju and protects it from attacks. Each is bound by a data processing agreement with us to protect your data at least as well as this notice does and, apart from Stripe's own legal duties, to use it only on our instructions.
Google and Apple, if you sign in with them: they confirm who you are to Linju. We send Google nothing about you. Each time you sign in with Apple, we send Apple back the one-time code it gave for that sign-in, to confirm it and to receive the token section 3 describes; and we tell Apple when you delete your account or disconnect Apple (section 3).
Authorities, when the law requires it: for example the National Crime Agency, the police with a lawful request, or a regulator.
A buyer of Linju, if Linju is ever sold, who would have to use your data as this notice describes.
We never sell your data, and we do not share it for advertising.
7. Data outside the UK
Our own servers are in the UK. Some of our service providers handle data in the United States or the European Union: Resend (email addresses, email subjects and delivery records), Expo (notification tokens and, while sending, the notification itself) and Stripe (shops' payment details). If you sign in with Apple, what we send Apple outside the UK is the one-time code Apple gives for each sign-in, sent back to confirm it, and our request, when you delete your account or disconnect Apple, to end Linju's access to your Apple account. Where data leaves the UK, it is protected by safeguards UK law approves: the UK Extension to the EU-US Data Privacy Framework, or the UK's International Data Transfer Agreement or Addendum. You can ask us for details.
8. How long we keep it
Your account: while it exists. When you delete it, your email, name and home are removed at once.
Your Google or Apple ID, and the token from Apple: while your account exists, removed when you delete it or disconnect that account in your Profile. The token goes as soon as you stop using Sign in with Apple in your Apple settings. Until Apple confirms that it has ended Linju's access, we keep the token, encrypted, for at most 7 days more while we keep asking. If your account is suspended when you delete it, a scrambled form of the ID is kept with the suspension record, as the mailbox is.
Your welcome pass answer: while your home stays the same; it is removed if you move or delete your account.
Visits and rewards recorded by shops: 3 years, kept under an anonymous reference after you delete your account.
Your choices about messages, and the terms you accepted: while your account exists and 6 years after it is deleted, as proof.
Security records: 2 years. Sign-in sessions: until they end, then 30 days.
Notifications and records of emails sent to you: 90 days.
Notification tokens: until you sign out or delete your account, or 90 days after a phone was last seen.
Reports, removals and appeals: 6 years after they are closed, as our online safety duties require.
A suspension of your account: 6 years after it ends, or 6 years after your account is deleted if it had not ended. The scrambled mailbox and Google or Apple ID kept with it go when the suspension ends, or with the record.
Data requests: 6 years after we answer them.
Shops' invoices and payments: 6 years, kept by Stripe, for tax.
The shops you ask for: until you remove them, 90 days after the shop joins Linju, or otherwise a year after you asked.
A shop we approached: a year after it says no or joins Linju, otherwise two years after we last updated it.
Backups keep deleted data for up to 30 days. If we ever restore one, we delete again everything that was deleted.
9. Your rights
You have the right to:
get a copy of your data: use "Download my data" in the app;
correct it: change your details in the app, or ask us;
have it deleted: delete your account in the app or at linju.app/delete-account;
object to our use of it, and always to direct marketing, including the profiling behind come-back messages;
ask us to restrict how we use it;
take your data to another service (portability);
withdraw any consent, in the app or from the message itself.
Using your rights is free. We reply within one month.
10. Complaints
If you are unhappy with how we handle your data, please tell us first using "Contact us about your data". We acknowledge every complaint at once and reply within one month.
You can also complain to the Information Commission, the UK's data protection regulator: ico.org.uk/make-a-complaint, or 0303 123 1113.
11. Cookies and what is kept on your device
On linju.app we use two cookies. One keeps you signed in. The other lasts 10 minutes and ties a sign-in to your browser while it happens: when you ask for a sign-in link, or sign in with Google or Apple. Both are strictly necessary, so we do not ask for consent for them. We use no analytics or advertising cookies.
linju.app also keeps your last chosen mode and a few conveniences in your browser, and, until you sign in, a shop or team invite you opened while signed out, and the page to return to while you sign in with Google or Apple, in that tab only.
On your phone, the app keeps your sign-in, the secret behind your code and your app lock setting in the phone's secure storage, and your last cards and profile so the app opens without signal. These are removed when you sign out.
12. Children
Linju is for people aged 18 and over, and every account confirms it. If you believe a child is using Linju, please tell us.
13. Changes to this notice
If we change this notice in a way that matters to you, we will tell you before the change takes effect. You can ask us for any earlier version at [email protected].
